Pallet Rack in Garden City, GA
Garden City warehouses handle the transition between container unloading, temporary staging and stock that needs a defined rack position. Near the Garden City Terminal gates, the first question is often how much freight must remain accessible today, not how many pallets can be packed into the building. Savannah Pallet Rack plans new warehouse racking for that operating pattern, including selective rows for mixed inventory and deeper lanes where repeated loads justify them.
Older clear heights require a different rack plan
Warehouses along Telfair Road, Chatham Parkway and Augusta Road / GA-21 include 18–24 foot clear buildings with 40 by 25 foot column spacing. They sit about five miles from both Garden City Terminal and Ocean Terminal, with access to I-16, I-516 and US-80. The lower storage envelope makes each beam elevation important. A tall pallet may consume space that otherwise supports another level, so the load-height range belongs in the initial measurements.
In these older layouts, we work through the truck approach before fixing the rack runs. Column placement can narrow a turning point even when the straight aisle appears wide enough. Selective pallet racks can give direct access to freight with an uncertain departure order. Pushback or drive-in areas need a clearer understanding of pallet depth per item and the sequence in which stock will leave.
Dean Forest Road and terminal-adjacent buildings
Dean Forest Road is the main industrial corridor. Coastal Commerce Center / Dean Forest Logistics Center at Dean Forest Road and I-16 is about 6.4 miles from the main terminal gate and 3.2 miles from I-95. Industrial City Gardens provides Class A space about two miles from the Georgia Ports Authority gates, and the 166,400 square foot Sonny Perdue Logistics Center was delivered near the terminal in 2020.
Newer buildings can support a different vertical arrangement from the older stock, but greater clear height does not automatically mean greater usable lift height. Loaded forklift reach, pallet height and beam spacing must be checked together. We show the storage levels and aisle arrangement as one plan, rather than treating the rack specification and the warehouse traffic pattern as separate decisions.
Deep lanes for repeated container freight
Floor-loaded import containers can produce large groups of similar pallets after unloading. Drive-in rack is worth examining when the freight can remain grouped by item and retrieval does not require individual pallet access. Pushback keeps loading and retrieval at one aisle, which may suit an overflow area where operators need repeated access to several stock lines. Both choices depend on the number of pallets held per item, not simply the total load count.
Mixed cartons, varying pallet construction and overhanging loads need attention before specifying a lane system. We ask for the pallet footprint, weight range and load condition as presented for handling. The resulting beam capacities and support arrangement should follow those measurements. Port-side humidity is another practical consideration; protected or galvanized finishes can be considered where the storage environment calls for them.
Plan staging before the installation date
Norfolk Southern's rail yard, the port and the airport are all within about ten minutes of Garden City's industrial stock. Small-bay flex with 24 foot clear height and three-phase power is also being added on Augusta Road. These different building types call for different layouts, even when both are handling port-related freight. Keep temporary unloading positions separate from permanent rack locations so an inbound container does not close the main aisle.
For a warehouse relocation, we can plan new racks around the transfer sequence and opening areas in the receiving building. Storm disruptions during the June–November hurricane season belong in installation scheduling, along with freight receiving windows. Start with a drawing and truck details, then compare pallet rack, pushback and drive-in product options. The quote discussion should settle storage access, material staging and the order of work before installation begins.
